Blog Amaryllis outlasts Original

Time for another post. The amaryllis has now expired although the second one (thanks to Ken and Mary Flegel) will burst out any moment. Family in foreign parts will be relieved to know that I haven't just been sitting and watching the plant !

Upstairs: Above the railing at the top of the stairs.

This is really part of some efforts to reduce the howling gale that roars down the staircase. The base beneath the railing on both sides is now panelled, which looks quite good and doesn't darken the stairwell and has had some benefit in wind reduction.

Finally, some four years on, the inside work on the MBR dormer window is done. I'm leaving the staining for a day when we can have the windows open.

Activity at the three bird feeders is frenetic and I have the feeling we're feeding most of the winter bird inhabitants in Eastern Ontario. Black-capped chickadees dominate the scene, but there are other varieties that Gabriel will report on . The other morning there were ELEVEN mourning doves perched on the railings at the front door. I haven't heard them cooing so wonder if they save up their mournful dirge for spring and summer.
This is where the mourning dove picture should be !

A bit of cutting and pasting has this pic. in the right place.
Well, the chaps from Riverlink, the high speed internet provider came to "investigate". Unfortunately there are too many obstacles. Trees and barns and the signal was too weak and would likely be non-existent when the trees are in leaf. A $1,000.00 mast might help, but that is just plain crazy. They think I might get "a satellite hook-up", but their resident satellite expert is sunning himself in Florida 'til April. I'll have another try then, but in the meantime will have to rely on the snail speed of Ma Bell.
The up-side is that you're being spared loads of dull pictures !
Will unlikely post again before I head for Vancouver and Victoria but will surely have pics when I return.
So....come on Spring... winter has been long enough.
